Our Impact

our impact

Making magic that lasts.

Our efforts in making the world a better place.

Jackalope Land doesn't believe in fast fashion.

In fact, we believe in the opposite: taking time to create a work or wearable art that can be cherished forever. This means small scale production with less waste and fewer cheap items being mindlessly thrown in landfills. We also make sure our manufacturers located in Indonesia and Thailand are ethical and treated fairly with reasonable pay. We refuse to cut any corners when it comes to the happiness of the people helping us make our magic come to life.

Our hand-beaded pieces are lovingly made in Bali with an amazing manufacturer who provides their staff with fair pay and a profit sharing program. Our beading team is primarily female and our manufacturing process allows women to earn income from home while caring for their families. As a female run startup, we find it truly important to lift other women up wherever we can.

every purchase you make is a vote towards the companies you want to see running the future of fashion.

So we hope you love what we do so we can keep doing it.

While we are a small business, we do believe that we can set a good example for how a fashion brand can be environmentally responsible and fabulous at the same time. Sometimes a drop in the ocean is enough to make a difference and inspire others to change.

Trees for the Future

Our partnership helps facilitate a better future.

Offsetting our carbon emissions.

As of April 2018, for each item that is purchased from Jackalope Land we plant 25 trees on your behalf through Trees for the Future (TREES).

We have estimated that the production of one of our most material dense items produces approximately 305 pounds of carbon. One tree absorbs 34.6 pounds of carbon per year–meaning that planting roughly 9 trees would offset the production of your Jackalope Land garment in the first year and 34.6 pounds of carbon each following year.

We plant twenty-five.

By planting with TREES, you are not only offsetting your carbon emissions but also giving people in Sub-Saharan Africa the ability to transition from unsustainable farming techniques to a Forest Garden System which provides them and their families with food and income.

All your purchases with Jackalope Land will help make a positive impact on the world through Trees for the Future.

Sungai Watch

Our partnership helps facilitate a cleaner future.

Less plastic, more fantastic.

For each item sold from Pearl Cove we donate a portion of the profits to Sungai Watch—enough to clean 5kg of trash from entering our majestic oceans through one purchase.

Sungai Watch is a not-for-profit on a mission to stop plastic from going into the ocean by cleaning rivers in Indonesia. By designing simple trash barriers and operating a collection, sorting, and up-cycling system, they have created a scalable approach to tackling plastic pollution. In two years alone, they've deployed more than 178 floating river barriers and collected more than 1,000,000 kilograms of plastic.

Through these barriers, we can understand what is polluting our rivers and how we can improve—getting communities and governments involved in cleaning waterways. Furthermore and equally as important, Sungai Watch educates the local community through social media that simple changes can change their world.

The Plastic Problem

In 2022 we’ve swapped all of our poly bags to biodegradable alternatives to make sure we are limiting the amount of plastic put into the world.

Unfortunately, Jackalope Land cannot be 100% sustainable due to the use of polyester and sequins. We will however, always strive to find ways to become more sustainable–this is something we are committed to as a brand.

While all fabrics do have impact on the environment unless they are second hand, we do our best to counteract any negative impact through our tree planting and charitable donations and hope that sustainable materials will become cheaper, more accessible and inspiring to work with in the future.
